A dental emergency includes any dental problem that requires immediate dental treatment.
Knocked-Out Tooth: This can occur from a sports injury or other oral trauma. When the proper steps are followed, the chances are good that your dentist can reinsert and save your tooth. If your tooth is knocked out gently rinse the tooth and, if possible, carefully place it back in the socket. If you can’t place your tooth in its socket, place it in a small cup of milk. It’s important to note that you shouldn’t touch the tooth’s roots or scrub the tooth.
Chipped Tooth: A chipped tooth that isn’t causing you pain often doesn’t require immediate attention. However, it’s important you still contact your dentist to discuss your situation.
Cracked or Fractured Tooth: A cracked or fractured tooth is a dental emergency that requires immediate attention from your dentist. If the fracture or crack was caused by trauma, place a cold compress on the area to minimize swelling.
Any dental incident that requires attention to stop bleeding, alleviate pain, or save a tooth is classified as a dental emergency. Providence Dentistry offers same-day appointments to accommodate dental emergencies.
