Dr. Irvine on Dental Implants
Dental implants are often the best option for one or two or multiple missing teeth, mostly because if you don’t have to drill good teeth next to the space, when you put an implant in, it acts just like the tooth did before. You can floss between it, you can chew with it, the gums end up forming around it and looking just like your tooth did, or better. So if somebody needed an implant, we take a CT scan and merge it with the video camera scan that we take with the CEREC machine.
We make a surgical guide so that the accuracy of the placement is to point, like 0.02 millimeters accuracy, and we have the exact angulation that you want to place the implant through what will be the restoration. So it just makes it a faster procedure for the patient, more enjoyable for the patient. And if you don’t replace the tooth, sometimes there’s movement of the teeth over time.
The teeth like to shift if there’s space for them to shift into, and then that can affect the bite and over time might not be able to chew with it as well. It would be better to put an implant in. It would be better to have something in there, a bridge or a partial also, if you didn’t want to do an implant.

Enjoy Lifelike Function by Pairing New Teeth With Implants
Implants are titanium tooth roots placed in your jaw. They function just like your natural tooth roots. Once in your jaw, they become a part of your body through a process called osseointegration. You won’t even know an implant is there, and it can last your lifetime.
You can trust our practice with this procedure. Dr. Irvine has extensive training in placing implants, having completed numerous continuing education courses. She is Dawson-certified and received additional implant training through implant seminars taught by expert, Dr. Arun Garg. Plus, we place implants using advanced technology for precise results. Using 3-D scans, we create custom surgical guides to give you the best outcome.
The process begins by coming in for a consultation. Your dentist will do an exam and take digital X-rays. She will determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. You may need certain procedures to prepare your mouth to support implants. Your dentist may need to extract teeth to move forward. Bone grafting may be needed if you have bone loss in your jaw.
Your dental implant options include:
- Implant Crown – An implant combined with a dental crown replaces a single missing tooth. It functions like a natural tooth, so you can floss, brush, and eat normally.
- Implant Bridge – Replace several teeth in a row with an implant bridge. Instead of having to prepare healthy teeth to support a bridge, you can get your bridge anchored to implants. Your jaw will stay strong, unlike with a traditional bridge.
- Implant Dentures – Your dentures can remain securely in place with implants. You won’t have to use adhesive to keep your teeth secure. You can eat more of the foods you love without limitation or difficulty. You have two options: dentures that snap into place on top of implants and are removable for cleaning or teeth that stay fixed in place. With the latter option, you just brush and floss as usual. They can be removed by a dentist if any other maintenance is required. With her implant expertise, Dr. Irvine will help you select the replacement teeth that are right for you.
Call 704-246-5346 for dental implants in Charlotte. You can schedule online. We’re open as early as 7 a.m.!

Understanding what’s involved in your implant treatment will help you feel at ease. Here is what happens:
- Your dentist will use advanced technology to plan your implant placement. We’ll take digital X-rays and scans to ensure placement is correct.
- Depending on the extent of bone loss in your jaw, you may need a bone graft or a ridge augmentation in preparation. These procedures prepare your jaw for implants.
- If those are necessary, after a time of healing, your dentist will place the implant(s) in your jaw.
- Once your jaw has a chance to integrate the implant(s), you’ll return for your restoration. Before you know it, you’ll have a fully functional set of teeth!

I recently visited Providence Dentistry and had the pleasure of being treated by Dr. Michelle Felden — and I couldn’t be more impressed. Her patient care was exceptional from start to finish. She checked in constantly to make sure I was comfortable, paused whenever I needed a break, and clearly explained each stage of the procedure and what to expect next. Even though my “responses” were mostly muffled uh-huh’s and thumbs-ups, she still guided me through the entire process, and I felt completely informed the whole time. Having grown up with my mom as my dental hygienist for over 20 years, my old dental office felt like a second home — so I wasn’t sure I’d ever feel that comfortable switching dentists. But from the moment I walked into Providence Dentistry, from the front desk staff to the hygienists to Dr. Felden herself, I immediately felt at home and completely confident that I was receiving the highest level of care. Dr. Felden’s gentle approach, attention to detail, and communication style made what could have been an anxious experience into one of ease and trust. Thank you to the entire team at Providence Dentistry — I’m already looking forward to bringing some treats for you guys next routine cleaning!

Jeri – best hygienist. Dr Irvine – best dentist. Support staff – excellent. Highly recommended! Update 7/2022: unfortunately, had to pull a tooth. Dr Patel was my dentist for the first time and it was a good experience. Gave me my options of an implant or a bridge. Very professional and knowledgeable.. Has made me as comfortable as I can be in my current situation. I’m going with the bridge and have full confidence Dr Patel will do a good job. My “white knuckling” that I have always felt when at the dentist, has reduced due positive experiences. I highly recommend Providence and Dr’s Patel and Irvine.

I was extremely impressed and satisfied with the whole staff at Providence Dentistry. I had an accident while traveling 10 days ago. My friends recommended this practice to me. I made an appointment for the day I returned from my trip. I was a new patient, so they made accommodations to fit me in. The whole staff was so kind to me from the moment I made the appointment until after my procedure yesterday. I highly recommended Providence Dentistry! I had a phobia of the dental office before, they were so caring and helpful that I no longer fear the dental office.

what can you say about a Dentistry that says you have great teeth … other than to say they are great. Great staff. Energetic and Helpful. Thanks
Dental implants are small titanium posts that we place in your jaw to act as artificial teeth roots. They are an ideal way to replace missing teeth because the implant fuses with your jawbone to form a base for new teeth. Implants also help keep your jawbone healthy by stimulating the growth of new bone.
Technically, dental implants can be removed, although it is unlikely you would ever need to have that done. Once your implants have been placed in your jawbone, they completely bond with it and can last for decades, if not the rest of your life. Your replacement teeth that are anchored to your implants have an average life span of five to 10 years.
The cost of dental implants varies, depending mainly on how many implants you receive. In some cases, you may also need another procedure, like a tooth extraction or bone grafts, to prepare for implants. We’ll discuss the cost with you during the planning stage of your implant procedure so you know exactly what to expect. In addition, financing through CareCredit can make your care manageable.
